What have I learnt potty training my 2,9 year old...?
Patience
Patience
Patience
That is all...
In all honesty, I dreaded having to potty train. I did not feel like constantly running for the bathroom and spending all that time thinking about pee and poo, and I definitely did not want to change wet and dirty underwear every so often.
Having a small baby at home, having just started work again and having to deal with potty training was just not something I saw myself doing.
I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised. I bought a bunch of underwear with dinosaurs on them. Explained to Theo that dinosaurs hates being peed or pooed on, and Theo, being Theo, with his love for Dinos, tried his best never to make the dinos sad. I think in total he had 3 accidents, and all of them were our fault for not reminding him to go to the bathroom. I am proud to say that he is fully day-trained. (The nights we'll deal with later.)
We tried earlier, when Theo just turned 2, to potty train him, but that was one of our our biggest parenting mistakes to date. Trust me when I say this: If a child is not ready for, and does not understand potty training, you will only make yourself angry and harm your symbiotic relationship with your child.
So mamas, my advice on potty training...
Be patient, and wait until your child is ready to understand the what's and why's of potty training.
No stress, no mess, no fuss. (LOL, I had to)
