Do not start until your baby is six months old and can sit without assistance. Do not start later than 6 months of age. Start when your baby is 4 months old and can sit with assistance. Introduce one solid for a week. Introduce one solid every 3 days. Puree all foods. Give whole pieces of food and let them suck on it. Give tiny bite sizes but make sure your baby does not choke.
I just don't know any more!
With my first child, it was easy. Start with rice cereal and introduce a new solid every week. And that was just two years ago! Now, there are so many options and opinions about starting solids, it is more confusing and frustrating than anything else.
I think I am going to stop Googling and start following my instincts.
Wish me luck!
